Aged 25

Auxiliary Territorial Service (F.A.N.Y)
Died on Saturday, 20th January 1945

Mary Ursula Boughey was born in Norfolk on 15th March 1919 (Freebridge Lynn Q1-1919 4B:462), daughter of Reverend Percy Fletcher and Elsie le Strange BOUGHEY (née HERRING) of Soham Vicarage.
Her mother's family were from Narborough House, Narborough.

In the 1939 register she was at Hounslow Barracks, Heston and Isleworth in the 5th London Motor Coy, ATS. Her father Percy F BOUGHEY [23-3-1882] Clerk in Holy Orders, mother Elsie le Strange[28-9-1880] and brother Thomas F [25-1-1914] incapacitated, were at The Vicarage, Fountain Lane, Soham.

Junior Commander was the equivalent of Army Captain. The First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (F.A.N.Y) were set up in 1907, originally trained in cavalry work and signalling to enable them to reach the wounded. They were soon driving motor transport, a role which they carried on between the wars. In September 1938, the FANY Corps was asked to form the initial Motor Driver Companies of the Auxiliary Territorial Service, called the Women's Transport Service and FANYs also worked during WW2 as radio officers, encryption specialists, wireless operators, radar operators, personal assistants (drivers, coders and decoders) in the UK, North Africa, Italy, India, Ceylon and the Far East.

As yet the cause of Mary's death or service history is unknown.
